Behavior Technician Job Description

We are looking for curious, passionate, and ethical BTs to provide one on one special education to our students with special needs. Duties:

Education Requirements

GED or High School Diploma

Experience Preferences

Effective history of working with children K-12

Effective history of working with individuals with severe behavior

Physical requirements

Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time

Must be able to sit, stand, climb, walk, balance, lift 50 pounds, push/pull 50 pounds, carry 50 lbs, grasp, reach, handle, stoop/crouch, crawl, talk, hear, taste, and smell regularly

Defined as:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires the ability to run and walk for a minimum of 5 minutes, escort a student for a minimum of 5 minutes, and be able to climb a six foot fence. This position must be able to respond quickly to active and aggressive children, adolescents, and young adults ages 5 to 22. Physical response may include evasion, and/or performing approved escorts, holds, and restraints to maintain student and staff safety. These activities may require the ability to run, use of arms in deflecting, restraining, or holding for periods of time with a moderate to high level of force, use of torso and hips to balance or hold, and ability to kneel and rise, or lie on the ground and rise swiftly and safely.

Working Environment

Noise Conditions: exposed to moderate and occasional loud noise from students, toys, and normal school equipment

Heat/Cold: may be subject to heat, cold, wet, and/or humid weather conditions, and occasionally five or more minutes in extreme heat, cold, or wet weather conditions

Injury exposure: position requires physical activity and occasionally physical management of a student therefore may present conditions for injury

Environmental Exposures: potential exposure to secretions, saliva, blood, urine, and feces; thereby, potentially at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Job Details:

Pay is dependent on experience!
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-4pm

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation, driver's license, working cell phone and valid car insurance - and provide documentation of such to employer when requested.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to pass background check, fingerprinting, and complete application for Certified Behavior Technician license.
  • Successful completion of 40 hour training within 1 week of employment (stipend upon completion).
  • CPR (required within 90 days of hire).
  • Food Handler's Card (required within 90 days of hire)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children in school, home or community settings.
  • Experience with & understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Experience working with children with special needs.
  • 2 or 4 year degree in Education, Psychology, or related field.
  • Candidates who hold a current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential or Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) will be given first consideration.

Job Duties detailed:
  • Provide direct student care in 1:1 and group formats
  • Prepare meals and snacks for students
  • Utilize a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements in home, clinic, and community settings.
  • Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Follow and record data for prescribed training protocols.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable student behavior.
  • Utilize safe & appropriate procedures when working with students.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and school environment.
  • Sit, stand and move with children to maintain effective programming and implement safety procedures as directed by the BCBA, described in student programs or to prevent imminent harm.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Collaborate professionally with the treatment team including student, parents and caregivers, outside professionals, Lead Behavioral Technician, Behavior Specialist, coworkers, etc
  • Assist Lead Behavioral Technician and Behavior Analysts in preparing student materials as instructed.
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required training.
