Thrift Operations General Manager

Position Purpose

The Thrift Operations General Manager's (GM) primary focus is to maximize the organization's net income from the operation of one or more thrift stores. The GM works closely with store's leadership and staff to set goals, develop strategies to optimize sales and production practices, provide superior customer service and continually strive to remain competitive in the market. The GM will work with vendors and suppliers to minimize overhead costs. The GM will hold managers and staff accountable to policies and procedures. GM will serve as the primary point of contact with business partners, donors, stakeholders, and the public, and help support and help raise awareness of The Arc's mission.

Job Duties/Expectations

  • Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain significant and appropriate goals, and the policies and practices required to reach and sustain them.
  • Monitor and evaluate operational procedures, staffing, the quality of services, and the achievement of outcomes. Implement any necessary changes to maximize margins while maintaining or improving the quality of services.
  • Collaborate with CEO and managers to develop, administer and comply with an accurate budget for each location to create and maintain a high quality and financially successful store(s) that maximizes surpluses and meets or exceeds financial objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
  • Three years' experience managing a scheduled (hourly) workforce.
  • Three years' experience managing budgets with demonstrated ability to build revenues and control costs.
  • Experience with customer service and/or retail environment for multiple sites.
  • Donation and production management experience, thorough knowledge of the thrift industry.
  • Must be available on weekends.

Requirements

  • Must be 25 years of age
  • High-school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to successfully pass required Background Checks
  • Must possess strong leadership, managerial, organizational, administrative, communication, interpersonal, analytical and computer skills.
  • Must demonstrate capacity for strategic planning and adaptability to changing business environments.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity and commitment to people with disabilities.
  • Maintain personal transportation available for work-related use and valid WA driver's license with proof of liability insurance. Essential function to drive 1 ton Thrift Store box truck for donation transfers, deliveries or other need of the stores.
  • Open and closes the store(s) as required.
  • Works weekends and Holidays as assigned.
  • Provides backup to Store Managers in their absence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, point of sale (POS) systems

Physical Demands

This position is a mix of administrative work combined with assisting in all aspects of the retail stores. May require back filling any position within the Thrift Store. Physical demands include days with largely sedentary desk work. This position may experience the following: Extended standing, walking, and using a computer and cash register. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger and reach with hands and arms; see, hear, speak, touch and move throughout the stores. Exposure to temperature fluctuations, noise, and dust. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds, and may push/pull clothing racks and load or unload donations of up to 50 lbs. Constantly standing, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, and stooping. Must be able to lift the arms shoulder height repeatedly. Will use wrists and hands consistently and repetitively for grasping and sorting.

Compensation

$28.00-30.80* starting range, entire scale to $36.40 per hour, Non-exempt, Benefits available for positions30+ hours/week, including medical, dental, life insurance, premium paid holidays, and paid leave time.

*All pay is based on longevity at The Arc of Spokane; thus,the starting pay for this position is $28.00 per hour.
