Facilitate the receipt, storage, and dispensing of Jet-A, Avgas, diesel, and unleaded gasoline fuels. Maintain and operate the facility in a manner consistent with rules, regulations and standards governing the handling of aviation fuel products. Ensure a high level of safety and environmental stewardship.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Perform and record detailed daily inspections of fuel storage tanks and operating systems
  • Sample and test various fuel products according to guidelines including ATA Specification 103 - Standards for Jet Fuel Quality Control at Airports
  • Accurately enter data into reports
  • Assemble and circulate reports to various stakeholders
  • Maintain facility logs and records
  • Monitor inventory, communicate with facility users about on-hand inventory needs, and place orders for fuel accordingly
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair on equipment and grounds to ensure facility remains in good working order to prevent spills, releases, overfills, product contamination, or environmental damage
  • Snow and Ice control in and around the facility
  • Maintain a safe working environment and report injuries and safety concerns
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Technical school or Associates preferred.
  • Mechanical, facilities, or related experience required.
  • Experience in a fuel or other hazardous materials handling environment preferred
  • A combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of this position may be considered.
  • Valid State driver license with an excellent driving record.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Prioritize a variety of tasks with little supervision and use good judgment.
  • Organize information into a coherent and meaningful format.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Job functions require sitting and standing for extended periods, but also involve climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, walking, carrying, and reaching. Must be able to crawl through small spaces and walk over rough terrain.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Wrist and hand movements required for frequent keyboarding and use of office equipment.
  • Close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and read small print
  • Ability to exchange information through listening and talking with customers, coworkers, and other individuals required.

Security/Safety:
  • Subject to a ten (10) year background check for security clearance.

Regular contact with co-workers and tenants.

WORKING CONDITIONS, TRAVEL, ENVIRONMENT AND POTENTIAL HAZARDS:

Majority of work performed in and around the Fuel Facility complex with exposure to airborne particles, Av gas, Jet-A fuels, and other petroleum products and chemicals, jet engine and heavy equipment noise. Occasional exposure to severe weather conditions such as snow, ice, heat; some work performed in an office under controlled conditions.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION REQUIRED:

Control room computers, alarm panel and generator panel, circuit breaker room switches, personal computer, calculators and fax machine, various hand and power tools, air compressors, pumps, snow removal equipment (snow blower and pickup truck with blade), fuel testing equipment, receiving and dispensing equipment, tank gauging gear, emergency fuel shut-off system, product recovery tank and oil/water separator.

Spokane Airport provides a generous benefit package. Currently, we cover employee at 100% and dependents at 90% of the premium cost. We offer four plan choices for medical coverage (includes vision) through Kaiser Permanente. The Airport contributes to a Health Savings Account (HSA) for high deductible plans and a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for the other plans. Dental coverage is through MetLife. Additionally, the Airport provides life insurance at two times the annual salary. Optional life insurance is also available. Short term and long term disability is also provided by the Airport. Retirement is through the Washington State Department of Retirement System - PERS Plan. The Airport provides an employee assistance program through BHO. Parking is provided.

The Airport recognizes 11 holidays. Vacation is earned at eight (8) hours a month for the first five (5) years and increases every five (5) years. Sick leave accrues at eight (8) hours a month. The Airport also provides military and jury leave.
