**Salary:** $3,144.00 - $4,083.00 Monthly

The Spokane Crime Laboratory provides forensic science services and training for user agencies within the criminal justice system in order to enhance public safety for the citizens of Washington State. This position supports the laboratory by maintaining the integrity of evidence received from user agencies and releasing the evidence after it has been processed. In addition to maintaining the chain of custody in evidence transactions, this position provides support to the scientific staff by handling clerical duties.

Primary Duties:

* Process evidence by receiving and releasing evidence to representatives from law enforcement agencies.

* Enter evidence into the Justice Trax system.

* Assign laboratory number and label each evidence item.

* Communicate any questions or concerns with the evidence or associated paperwork with the submitting agency.

* Receive and release items between the laboratory evidence vault and staff.

* Maintain the evidence vault in an organized manner to ensure the chain of custody and integrity of the evidence.

* Participate in audits of the laboratory evidence system either internal, or as directed from the agency.

* Testify in courts of law on handling of evidence as required.

* Answer phones, provide information and referrals, receive visitors and maintain visitor log, notify the appropriate staff, and escort visitors when necessary.

* Maintain case and laboratory office files.

* Receive and direct subpoenas, business mail, and telephone calls to appropriate staff.

* Order, receive, and distribute office and laboratory supplies.

* Maintain records of credit card transactions, track monthly expenditures, and prepare payment vouchers.

**Requirements:**

Required Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

* Two years of clerical/office experience or law enforcement/military experience.

* Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with citizens in a customer-service manner and work collaboratively as a member of a team.

* Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State driver's license.

* Must be willing to provide an oral DNA sample to be used in the CODIS Elimination Profile Index.

Desired Qualifications:

* Three years experience in a law enforcement agency in the collection, preservation, safeguarding and disposal of evidence and property, or two years of full-time experience as a sworn law enforcement officer.

* Basic computer skills necessary for word processing, data management, and imaging.

* Basic office skills including filing, photocopying, faxing and telephone use.
