** Summary**

The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division, Painting Branch, Painting Day/Night Section. Seeking a skilled journey-level painter responsible for coating work on furnishings and buildings accomplished by standard methods and special finishing techniques including graining, marbling and mottling using coating materials prepared in common and special methods.

**Major Duties**

**Tour of Duty: Night Shift, Sunday thru Thursday, 9:30 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.**

+ Uses accepted methods of the trade. Plans the materials, tools and techniques needed for the work and completes the work with little or no advice. Determines the methods, devices and materials that are best suited to each surface to achieve a glossy finish, grained effect or a finish that must meet specified thickness levels or other criteria.

+ Utilizes standard tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels, screeds, straight edges, viscosity testers, graining devices and wet and other thickness gauges. Erects and dismantles swing staging and scaffolding.

+ Refinishes doors, baseboards, floors and interior trim in offices. Prepares surfaces, obtains smooth surfaces, evens out dents and treats surfaces.

+ Prepares and applies coating materials using accepted trade devices.

+ Applies decorative finishes including striping, stippling and graining. Matches colors, shading and textures of interior finishes where exact matching with previous finish is required.

+ Paints interior and exterior building signs from stenciled outlines.

+ Cuts and installs glass in windows and picture frames.

+ Removes and installs vinyl cove base where applicable in the House Office Buildings.

+ Preps surfaces for painting and special effects, such as filling, shaping and leveling with metal and synthetic resins. This includes removing old finishes and paint using chemicals, scraping, hand tools and sandpapering. Plaster and spackle small holes and cracks. Mixes and prepares paints, stains and other products. Fills cracks, holes and joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives. Tapes, blocks and finishes new drywall rooms and partitions.

+ Determines the methods, techniques, devices and materials best suited to the surface finish. Ensures that surfaces meet smoothness, level and shape requirements, using accepted methods and techniques. Prepares surfaces by methods such as smoothing with pumice and rottenstone; filling, shaping and leveling with metal and synthetic resins; and mixing and applying pre-coating agents such as picking and alkali compounds.

+ Complies with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure knowledge to proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). **Travel Required**

Journey Level Experience in the Painting Occupational Series is required for the Position.
