At Shredfast Inc., a Sawyer - Tier 1 works under the supervision of the Fabrication Department Lead, operating a diverse range of saws and cutting equipment to cut various materials including steel and aluminum. This position must demonstrate an attention to detail and a strong ability to focus. Due to the potential danger inherent to metal cutting equipment, a commitment to personal safety in both preparation and vigilance is mandatory.

Duties and responsibilities

• Operates basic saw types such as pop-up, miter, band, and web saws to cut material according to work orders
• Verifies dimensions of pieces, using micrometer, gauges, and rule
• Adjusts saw for required cuts
• Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls
• Examines pieces for defects, such as chipped edges and marred surfaces, and sorts defective pieces according to defect
• Organizes material after processing
• Observes safety procedures at all times
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

• Must be in good physical condition and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, get in and out of vehicles and work on ladders throughout the day
• Must be self-motivated and able to stay on task with good attention to detail
• Dependable transportation required
• Must maintain a clean and organized work environment

Additional Information

All applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. This is a Safety Sensitive position that requires a pre-employment drug screen that includes marijuana (tetrahydrocannabinol - THC & nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites- CBD), amphetamines, cocaine metabolites, opioids (including heroin, morphine, and codeine), and phencyclidine (PCP).

Shift Schedule:

Monday to Friday / 7:00am - 3:00pm (non-exempt) for Full-Time position

Requirements

• 1 year of experience running saws or manufacturing experience
• Ability to recognize various raw materials is preferred
• Ability to read a tape measure, calipers and various measurement tools
• Have good verbal communication skills
• Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools including grinders, drills, and air tools
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when moving heavy items such as large metal sheets and tubes, and be able to sit, stand, crouch and kneel
• Must be self-motivated and able to stay on task with good attention to detail
• Must maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Must have reliable transportation for work commute

Salary Description

$18.00 - $20.00
