Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Counseling and Wellness, the Associate Director of Wellness Services assists the Director with coordination, delivery, and evaluation of Counseling & Wellness Center services and programs.

The Associate Director of Wellness plays a critical leadership role within the Counseling and Wellness Services, providing oversight and strategic direction for campus health, wellbeing and prevention initiatives. This position assists in developing, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating holistic wellness programs and services that promote student health, safety, and academic success.

This position directly supervises three professional staff members who lead core areas of campus wellness and prevention:

  • Health Education Coordinator – Oversees peer health educators and provides campus-wide health and well-being education and outreach.
  • Prevention and Recovery Center Coordinator – Leads alcohol and other drug education efforts, including opioid prevention, naloxone training, and oversight of the Eagles for Recovery Program.
  • Basic Needs Navigator – Provides case management to students with unmet basic needs and oversees the campus food pantry system.

The Associate Director is responsible for supporting and guiding these roles, ensuring the successful implementation of programming, effective resource delivery, and strategic alignment with institutional goals and student wellness needs.

Additionally, the Associate Director will take a key role in implementing the Student Wellbeing Initiative, a core priority within the university's strategic plan. This includes collaborating with campus partners to develop sustainable strategies that enhance student wellbeing across academic, social, emotional, financial, and physical dimensions of health.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, student affairs, health promotion, health education, health policy, health communications, or related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in wellness education, prevention, or working with college students in a higher education setting.
  • One (1) year of supervisory or management experience overseeing professional staff, students, or interns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess needs, implement wellness programs, and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated culturally responsive approach that supports the diverse needs and identities of students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health, student affairs, health promotion, health education, health policy, health communications, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience overseeing professional staff, students, or interns.
  • Familiarity with the public health framework and its application on a college campus.
  • Advanced certification such as Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH).

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Conditions of Employment:

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
