JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for a wide range of maintenance and custodial related functions. This includes the day to day custodial duties for six months and supporting a journey level position and completion of work orders by district building administrators during the other six months. This position reports to the Director of Building and Grounds and the Director of Custodial Services in accordance with the position in which the person is working.

CUSTODIAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide general custodial duties, including cleaning school facilities and grounds, arranging furnishings and equipment, and securing buildings.
  • Answer all district calls and respond promptly, act as point of contact when required.
  • Communicate needs and cooperate with co-workers, fellow departments, and other shifts when necessary.
  • Follow the general direction of the Lead Custodian, looking to increase efficiencies in workflow while providing a balanced workload and ensuring clean, safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Operate equipment to meet building needs including: tractors, extractors, and floor scrubbers as well as any other assigned equipment. May also perform functions working from heights on ladders.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment or complete emergency work orders to ensure equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor supply needs and report needs to Custodial Leads.
  • Identify work order needs and report to Custodial Lead.
  • Ensure all chemicals are used safely and appropriately within the building according to GHS Chemical Safety Sheets and district directed standard operating procedures.
  • Respond to Security and Fire Alarms as needed.
  • Complete projects or travel between buildings as assigned.
  • Observe and ensure all safety rules, regulations and training are followed and report any safety concerns or violations to Department Director.
  • Attend meetings (which may occur outside of the regular work shift) as required by Director.
  • Perform other tasks at the direction of Director of Custodial Services.
GROUNDSKEEPER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Complete assigned work orders
  • Deliver chairs, risers, stages, band equipment and gym mats as well as miscellaneous items between buildings
  • Inspect/repair and maintain playground equipment such as backstops, swings, slides, domes, and other related playground equipment, including the maintenance of pea gravel pits
  • Repair, maintain fence lines and gates
  • Mow all district lawn and playgrounds as directed, including trimming around fence lines, curbs, and building edges with weed trimmer on a regular schedule
  • May plan and layout, design and install irrigation systems including control wire installation and controller system installation.
  • May repair and maintain irrigation mainlines, irrigation valves and pumps.
  • Sweep parking lots, sidewalks, and paved playgrounds
  • Assist with snow removal and parking lot sanding
  • Recondition play fields to include sodding, aerating, over-seeding and fertilizing
  • Maintain shrub beds and re-barking
  • Clean out sawdust hoppers
  • Perform minor welding of chairs, tables, etc.
  • Perform minor carpentry repair
  • Perform minor touch up painting
  • Perform re-stripping on paved play areas
  • Install signs on District facilities, parking lots, and playgrounds
  • Perform glazing/glass work
  • Perform minor asphalt repair of parking lots, roads, and paved playgrounds
  • Perform filter changing on HVAC systems
  • Work in a team environment outside of his/her qualified field to assist other persons at the direction of the Director.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of Buildings and Grounds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training/Experience
  • High school diploma and/or GED equivalent. PLEASE UPLOAD
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to identify and respond to problems and to remain calm under stress.
  • Ability to follow verbal or written directions.
  • Must Possess interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels while displaying a cooperative and willing attitude toward helping others.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication and basic organizational
  • Understanding of and ability to work with a variety of equipment including man lifts, tractors, extractors and floor scrubbers.
  • Understanding of Chemical Safety requirements and application use.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and labor safety standards
  • Working knowledge of Fire Alarm and Security Systems
  • Must possess the ability to lift, push, and pull weights in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders and operate lifts at elevated heights.
  • Ability to operate power tools, such as weed whacker, lawn mower, battery-powered drills, skill saw, etc.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency calls.
  • Ability to take and carry out directions with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to perform basic clerical, computer, and math skills.

A person working in this position will work in a variety of work environments both inside and outside with occasional exposure to inclement weather. The Position requires continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting of more than 50 pounds and carrying. This person may be required to work in restricted spaces, from a prone position, and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee is required to properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Mead Classified Public Employees Association (MCPEA) and the Mead Trade Combine Trade Associate (MCTA) and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. The salary range for the Custodial position is: Min $20.51 - Max $20.51. New Hires Salary placement will be at step 1 on the appropriate scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract.

The salary range for the Maintenance position is: Min $22.37 - Max $25.80. New Hires Salary placement will be at step 1 on the appropriate scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract.

A typical work year consists of 260 days which includes 13 paid holidays. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. A maximum of three (3) days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employee's scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
