Job Overview:

Title: Health Unit Coordinator

Department: Inpatient Services

Location: Spokane, WA

Hours: Part-Time (0.80 FTE); 32 hours per week (Evening, 1:30p-10p)

Schedule: No working weekends, typically no working holidays unless census deems otherwise.

This position works 4 (four) 8-hour shifts per week (3 day weekend!)

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an entry-level opportunity for a Health Unit Coordinator in our Inpatient Unit.

Responsibilities:

The Health Unit Coordinator manages the communication center of the inpatient nursing units, communicating courteously, effectively, and efficiently with all customers. Completes clinical information system and patient record responsibilities including admission, discharge, and transfers, patient registration, obtaining and updating insurance information; ensures that records are complete and accurate to allow for patient billing. Ensures nursing staff is aware of patient needs communicated to the HUC through the nurse call system. Notifies appropriate staff during emergency situations, acute admissions, and discharges. Provides assistance as needed to the nursing staff.

Qualifications:

Education

High School Diploma / GED required

Certification/Licensure

BLS certification required

Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) certification preferred

Experience

Experience in a healthcare setting and medical terminology strongly desired

Previous HUC experience preferred

Other

Current full vaccination status required

(Pay range for this position is $15.47/hr. - $23.06/hr. The hired applicant's placement within the range is based on qualifications, professional experience and education.
