Summary

The incumbent serves as a Supervisory Social Worker - RCS Vet Center Director (VCD) and is responsible for the professional and administrative supervision and oversight of all readjustment counseling, outreach, referrals, and follow-up care coordination services provided to eligible individuals within the designated Vet Center Service Area (VSA). The VSA covers multiple communities across different jurisdictions.

Qualifications Basic Requirements

  1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  2. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in both spoken and written English in accordance with VA policy.
  3. Education: Must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until accreditation is complete. A doctoral degree in social work cannot substitute for the master's degree. Verification can be checked at CSWE Accreditation.
  4. Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements are available on the OHRM website.
  5. Grade Determinations: For GS-13, one year of experience at the GS-12 level demonstrating advanced practice skills, supervision, and knowledge in the field is required. Candidates must also demonstrate specific KSAs including organization, supervision, delegation, organizational problem analysis, staff development, and resource management.
  6. Preferred Experience: Knowledge of PTSD, trauma intervention, psycho-social assessments, community outreach, veteran-specific issues, and program management.
  7. Physical Requirements: No inherent physical requirements that cannot be accommodated.

Duties

  1. Supervise professional and nonprofessional staff across multiple locations, including outreach and community-based services.
  2. Manage administrative, fiscal, and operational functions of the Vet Center, including budgeting, resource management, and compliance with policies.
  3. Coordinate and lead meetings with Congressional staff and community partners.
  4. Ensure delivery of counseling and outreach services within scope and standards.
  5. Develop and implement policies, staff goals, and performance evaluations.
  6. Provide direct counseling services as needed, including virtual options.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends. Compensation includes a competitive salary, paid leave, parental leave, childcare subsidy, retirement benefits, and federal insurance options. Telework is not available. This is a non-virtual position and PCS is not authorized.
