Job Description

We currently have positions open in our Projects and Fixed Assets, Revenue and Financial Systems and Resource Accounting teams, which may be the perfect fit for you! A little more about each team:

  • Projects and Fixed Assets Accounting: This area is primarily responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of all projects and fixed assets of the Company to include providing capital and operations and maintenance determinations to internal customers.

  • Revenue and Financial Systems Accounting: This area is primarily responsible for managing the general ledger, monitoring the monthly close and quarterly regulatory reporting process as well as the accounting and financial reporting of retail revenue. Additionally, this area has oversight and maintenance over certain of our financial systems and is the primary liaison between the accounting departments and the information technology group.

  • Resource Accounting: This area is primarily responsible for the accounting and financial reporting related to our wholesale purchases and sales of power and natural gas resources to include regulatory deferrals and the forecasting/analyzing of utility margin.

Responsibilities for each role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures assigned responsibilities are completed, accounted for and reported properly.

  • Prepare monthly closing journals and account reconciliations as assigned.

  • Thoroughly understand all aspects of assigned accounting processes. Identify accounting issues and resolutions within a timely manner. Keep management informed of accounting issues and progress of task completion.

  • Support company compliance by staying up to date on current accounting regulations impacting assigned responsibilities.

  • Research accounting regulations and/or changing requirements and apply them to the company's transactions. Assure the integrity, accuracy and reliability of accounting and financial information provided by the group.

  • Respond to questions of internal customers, internal and external auditors, and utility regulatory commissions.

  • Collaborate with team members and co-workers across the Company to create process improvements/efficiencies.

  • Understand and comply with SOX procedures and controls.

  • Research accounting issues, prepare complex analysis, provide recommendations on creative solutions and comprehensive advice to inform management decision making.

  • Ensure company compliance with professional, management and regulatory accounting requirements by implementing necessary changes as a result of current developments.

  • Perform analysis of complex accounting transactions for internal and/or external customers.

Requirements for Accounting Analyst II & III

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, general business, tax, statistics or a related field is required. CPA or MBA is preferred.

  • Experience with Oracle E-Business Suite, GL Wand, Blackline and other applications is desired.

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication, analytical and organizational skills.

Accounting Analyst II

  • 2+ years of accounting experience is required.

  • Broad knowledge of theory and general practices of subject area.

  • Demonstrated a strong understanding of the discipline and good understanding of the company's business processes and operations.

Accounting Analyst III

  • 5+ years of accounting experience is required.

  • Considerable knowledge of the theory and practices of the subject area.

  • Demonstrated depth of technical competency indicating mastery of the theory and practice of the subject area.

  • Considerable knowledge and big picture understanding of the company's major business processes and operations.

Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.

Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with an additional day determined by the employee and manager.
