Summary:

The Director of Safety & Risk Management will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all safety, risk management, security, and loss prevention programs. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations, mitigating organizational risks, and fostering a culture of proactive safety and compliance. The position involves collaboration across departments to reduce workplace incidents, enhance employee safety, and protect organizational assets. Travel is required using company and/or personal vehicle. Must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and proof of personal auto insurance. Successful candidates will pass background, credit, and driver record checks.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in safety, risk management, loss prevention, or compliance, preferably within retail, nonprofit, or warehouse settings
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, ADA, HIPAA, Workers' Compensation laws, and relevant safety and risk compliance requirements
  • Experience managing safety audits, investigations, and implementing corrective actions
  • Professional certification such as CSP, CRM, or ARM is preferred

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and oversee risk management strategies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and federal safety standards
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards to prevent injuries
  • Oversee incident reports, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective measures
  • Ensure compliance with insurance requirements, loss prevention, and security protocols
  • Act as liaison with external regulatory agencies and insurance providers

Safety & Security Programs

  • Develop, execute, and monitor safety policies and initiatives to promote a proactive safety culture
  • Lead safety training and awareness programs for all employees, including orientations and ongoing education
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards at all locations and oversee security operations such as access control, CCTV, emergency planning, and inspections

Loss Prevention & Incident Response

  • Develop and enforce policies to prevent asset loss and fraud
  • Investigate incidents related to safety violations, property damage, or security breaches
  • Ensure timely reporting and documentation of workplace injuries and security incidents
  • Foster a culture of loss prevention and accountability

Workers' Compensation & Claims Management

  • Oversee the Workers' Compensation program and respond promptly to workplace injuries
  • Monitor claims, coordinate with insurance providers, and develop strategies to reduce claim costs
  • Implement early return-to-work programs to facilitate recovery and minimize productivity loss

Maintain OSHA documentation and reporting such as OSHA 300 logs and 300A reports.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor safety, security, and risk management teams
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Retail, Facilities, and other departments to align safety initiatives with business operations
  • Provide safety metrics, trends, and improvement recommendations to executive leadership
