The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is "Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow" in Asia and beyond—with sustainability at its core. Established in 2016 in Beijing, AIIB has grown to 110 approved members worldwide, capitalized at USD 100 billion, and holds a AAA credit rating from major agencies. AIIB collaborates with partners to finance green, technology-enabled infrastructure that enhances regional connectivity.

The Economics Department leads AIIB's economic thought leadership, macroeconomic monitoring, infrastructure needs analysis, debt sustainability, and project economics. It publishes the annual Asian Infrastructure Finance report and supports investment operations.

The Head of Research and Development Impact will join the Economics Department, leading a team to conduct rigorous infrastructure research, impact studies, and maintain data quality, including geospatial data.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conceptualize and conduct in-depth research on infrastructure, development, and finance issues.
  2. Perform economic analyses of infrastructure projects and review third-party analyses to support AIIB's financing decisions.
  3. Lead 2-3 impact assessment studies annually for AIIB projects.
  4. Support and review AIIB publications, contributing insights and expertise.
  5. Develop analytical capacity within the bank, including geospatial and impact assessment tools, collaborating with stakeholders.
  6. Contribute to the research network and knowledge sharing.
  7. Manage and mentor the Research and Development Impact team, fostering growth among junior economists.
  8. Perform additional duties as assigned by senior management.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Advanced degree in economics (Ph.D. preferred), with a strong research record, including quantitative work on development issues.
  2. 8-10+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably with international financial institutions.
  3. Proficiency in data analysis tools, including geospatial analysis.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse, multicultural team.
  5. Excellent command of English, both oral and written.
  6. Experience in international organizations or think tanks is advantageous.
  7. Include a publication list or writing samples in your CV, with links to online or cloud-stored work.
