Job Title: Release Engineer

Location: Remote (Based in Washington, DC, Baltimore area)

Pay Rate: Up to $70/Hour

We are seeking a hands-on Release Engineer to manage and coordinate software releases across multiple applications and Agile teams. This role emphasizes CI/CD pipelines, Git branching strategies, and AWS cloud integration. The ideal candidate has a strong background in release engineering, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about automation and process improvement.

Key Technical Areas:

• CI/CD & Release Pipeline: Jenkins, Git, GitHub, scripting (Python, Bash), automation tools
• Process: Agile, multi-team coordination, UAT/QA support, risk mitigation, release notes, runbooks
• Not a coding-heavy role, but requires fluency in engineering principles and tooling

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and coordinate software releases across multiple Agile teams.
• Manage Git branching and merging strategies to support QA, UAT, and production deployments.
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines (primarily using Jenkins).
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash) to streamline the release process.
• Identify and mitigate risks in the release process.
• Collaborate with engineering and QA teams to ensure high-quality deployments.
• Create release documentation, including notes and runbooks.
• Recommend improvements to existing release and environment management processes.

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in software or release engineering.
• Proficient in Jenkins, Git/GitHub, and scripting (Python, Bash).
• Strong understanding of AWS services (e.g., ECS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, RDS).
• Solid knowledge of software development workflows and architecture.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and multi-team coordination.
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• Ability to read and understand application code to support release tasks.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
