Position Overview

We are seeking a visionary and hands-on VP of Operations and Engineering to join our leadership team. This role is central to accelerating our R&D efforts and delivering innovative solutions to our customers. You will oversee engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, project management, and applications engineering teams, helping us push the boundaries of technology. Your leadership will be instrumental in fostering a culture of creativity, agility, and entrepreneurial spirit, directly impacting our ability to rapidly develop and validate novel technologies.

What You'll Do

  • Customer-Focused Execution:
    Champion a culture where every decision is guided by deep customer understanding and a willingness to iterate quickly. Ensure projects are delivered with a focus on learning, rapid development, and responsiveness to customer feedback, recognizing that requirements may evolve as technology matures.
  • Strategic & Operational Excellence:
    Define and implement strategies that prioritize innovation, customer focus, and fast-paced development cycles. Drive independent initiative and personal responsibility across the organization, encouraging teams to propose and test bold ideas.
  • Accelerated Cross-Functional Flow:
    Foster seamless collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, project management, and applications engineering. Empower teams to identify obstacles and act independently to resolve them, accelerating development and validation. Focus on speed, adaptability, and shared ownership of technical challenges.
  • Cultivating an Elite Team:
    Build, inspire, and mentor a world-class team of innovators and technical leaders. Instill a culture of ownership, mission, and accountability where every individual is empowered to make decisions and drive the companys success. Foster an environment where collaboration is natural, and every team member understands the impact of their work on both technical milestones and the companys path to profitability.
  • Rigorous Project Planning:
    Lead our project management function with a rigorous approach to planning, tracking, and executing complex R&D projects. Develop and maintain detailed project roadmaps, milestones, and risk registers. Ensure project teams are clear on objectives, deliverables, and timelines, while maintaining flexibility to pivot as new information emerges. Proactively identify resource needs, technical dependencies, and critical path items, and communicate progress transparently to stakeholders.
  • Supply Chain:
    Oversee procurement and supplier relationships with a focus on sourcing novel materials and components and enabling rapid iteration. Ensure the team can quickly adapt to changing technical requirements.
  • Customer Integration & Support:
    Lead the Applications Engineering team to provide technical support and integration for early customer projects. Emphasize rapid feedback loops, learning from deployments, and using customer insights to inform ongoing R&D priorities.
  • Resource Optimization:
    Strategically manage budgets with a focus on maximizing impact and ensuring investments are aligned with both technical milestones and business objectives. Prioritize activities that accelerate the path to product-market fit and profitability, balancing resource allocation between short-term deliverables and long-term innovation. Influence decisions and create action in those who do not report directly to you.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or a closely related technical field; advanced degree (MS, PhD, or MBA) strongly .
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in R&D, engineering, or technical operations within aerospace, defense, or similarly complex environments, ideally in startup or early-stage settings.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading empowered, high-performing technical teams in fast-paced, high-growth organizations.
  • Proven ability to drive organizational change, foster a culture of innovation and personal responsibility, and deliver results with minimal management overhead.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to inspire and align diverse teams toward ambitious technical and business goals.
  • Agility & Adaptability:
    Ability to operate strategically and tactically in a dynamic, evolving environment, balancing technical risk-taking with disciplined resource management to ensure projects support both technical advancement and the companys financial sustainability.
