The Clinical Informatics Manager is responsible for the support of informatics resources in their area(s) of responsibility, including applications, multi-application solutions and the Epic EMR. This role maintains knowledge of clinical practice, regulatory requirements and a maintains a relationship with clinical and IT leadership with a regular physician presence in the clinical care areas. The role is accountable for promoting the understanding, integration, and innovation of clinical information technology to improve the clinician and patient experience. In addition, the Clinical Informatics Manager has a responsibility to define, execute, and measure applicable post-implementation optimization and enhancement plans to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and the user and patient experiences.

The manager is required to work closely with IT, other departments and partner organizations staff and leadership to coordinate resources, understand integration requirements between systems, and establish priorities in support of Fred Hutchison's strategic plan.

This is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage translation and governance of IT, clinical staff, patients, and leadership collaborating with key stakeholders and advocating for clinicians and patients.
  • Provide leadership on clinical application strategy, anticipating future technical needs and trends to promote system usability, quality, regulatory readiness, research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Able to provide all job responsibilities of a clinical informatics specialist such as manage improvement processes by systematically analyzing complex problems and present innovative solutions to clinicians and IT leaders and complete workflow development that support clinicians, patients, and organizational goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage and provide communications and updates to multiple levels of the organization.
  • Assures that the voice of the customer is represented, that multidisciplinary needs and standards of practice are integrated, and that related education and communications are developed, implemented, and evaluated.
  • Encourages feedback from internal and external customers, including maintaining established goals for employee satisfaction and fostering positive relationships with directly and indirectly impacted users. This includes monitoring service effectiveness, communication, identifying problems with work processes, and ensure that customer needs are met.
  • Manages daily operational work as well as core human resource responsibilities
    • Perform general HR activities: Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
      • Ensures staff are compliant with Fred Hutch policies and procedures.
      • Perform annual performance reviews.
      • Management of department staffing needs for daily operations.
  • Assists with budget development and management.
  • Leads staff growth planning and is an active participant in job role development for team skills development.
  • Lead daily management system activities including daily huddles, development of performance metrics and problem-solving efforts.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and participates in all aspects of team leadership.
  • Facilities key meetings, and operations councils with director and executive audiences.
  • Completes other duties as assigned based on request from Clinical Information Systems Leadership.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 plus years of experience in a healthcare leadership role with increasing responsibilities and management of at least 5-7 staff in a direct reporting relationship.
  • Clinical licensure.
  • Health informatics Degree or Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience working with teams in the development and support of applications, and in implementing production systems in a healthcare organization.
  • Experience in project management methodology principles with ability to document key supportive deliverables.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience collecting user requirements, translating to system feature enhancements, and requesting enhancements.
  • Knowledge of patient care operations in outpatient or acute care and/or research setting.
  • Knowledge of TJC, DOH, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Familiar with health system processes, business process analysis, and technical support best practices.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in training clinical end-users of various levels of technical savvy.
  • Knowledge oncology patient care services.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Experience in Strategic planning.
  • Epic certification.
  • Certification in Project Management.

This position is patient facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutch clinical facilities. As such, full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment, without exception. Booster doses are strongly recommended but not required. If declining a booster, completion of the COVID-19 Vaccination Status Form Questionnaire and COVID-19 Booster Declination Training is required. The annual base salary range for this position is from $117,336 to $185,466 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
