Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins' focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine—strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.
The Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM) is the dedicated development and alumni relations team supporting the entities that comprise Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), including clinical departments, hospitals, satellite clinics, and the School of Medicine. We contribute to Johns Hopkins Medicine's mission of patient care, research, and education through securing philanthropy, building and maintaining donor and alumni relationships, and supporting institutional priorities. FJHM partners closely with institutional leaders, faculty, and clinicians to engage alumni, patients, donors, and prospects in JHM's work to advance medicine and improve the human condition.
The Associate Director of Development is responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift and high-end annual gifts in support of the Departments of Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from grateful patients, unaffiliated individuals, alumni, faculty, foundations, and corporations. The Associate Director will work with the Director of Development and faculty, administrators, and patients, as well as professional colleagues to accomplish fundraising goals in support of the research, patient care and educational needs of the departments.
Key responsibilities:

- Initiate gift strategies and cultivate and solicit prospects through personal visits and written communication. This includes an annual goal of at least 85 face-to-face donor visits.
- Serve as primary development liaison to faculty members throughout the Departments of Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to identify and create strategies for outreach, approach, solicitation, and stewardship of grateful patients in support of their research, division, and/or satellite clinic. Hold recurring meetings to encourage faculty participation in development activities; secure faculty referrals and identify and evaluate giving potential of prospects; coordinate faculty participation in prospect solicitations and stewardship.
- Organize and direct preparation of proposals, outreach and solicitation letters, gift agreements, and other development materials for prospects and donors.
- Coordinate stewardship plans for donors at the $100,000+ level. Research specific current-use and endowed funds, develop annual reports for donors, and coordinate annual donor visits.
- Coordinate direct mail and email fundraising for the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This includes partnering with the Office of Medical Annual Giving, drafting correspondence and coordinating details in-house and externally.
- Learn and fully utilize all development systems and procedures of the Johns Hopkins University and Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, such as JHAS and PowerBI.
- Coordinate and assist with the planning and coordination of development related activities for the Surgery Programs team including professorship dedications, lectureships, and other ceremonies and events.
