JOB SUMMARY
A general maintenance employee is responsible for a wide range of maintenance related activities. This position frequently works in support of a journey level category. This position will be split working days for 8 months and swing shift for 4 months of the year. In order to meet the District needs, the general maintenance person may be called up to assist other district maintenance personnel with general maintenance tasks as directed by the Director of Maintenance. They are responsible to the Director of Maintenance.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete assigned work orders
- Deliver chairs, risers, stages, band equipment and gym mats as well as miscellaneous items between buildings
- Inspect/repair and maintain playground equipment such as backstops, swings, slides, domes, and other related playground equipment, including the maintenance of pea gravel pits
- Repair, maintain fence lines and gates
- Mow all district lawn and playgrounds as directed, including trimming around fence lines, curbs, and building edges with a weed trimmer on a regular schedule
- May plan and layout, design and install irrigation systems, including control wire installation and controller system installation.
- May repair and maintain irrigation mainlines, irrigation valves and pumps.
- Sweep parking lots, sidewalks, and paved playgrounds
- Assist with snow removal and parking lot sanding
- Recondition play fields to include sodding, aerating, over-seeding and fertilizing
- Maintain shrub beds and re-bark
- Clean out sawdust hoppers
- Perform minor welding of chairs, tables, etc.
- Perform minor carpentry repair
- Perform minor touch-up painting
- Perform re-stripping on paved play areas
- Install signs on District facilities, parking lots, and playgrounds
- Perform glazing/glass work
- Perform minor asphalt repair of parking lots, roads, and paved playgrounds
- Perform filter changing on HVAC systems
- Work in a team environment outside of his/her qualified field to assist other persons at the direction of the Director.
- Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of Maintenance
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Training - High school diploma and/or GED equivalent
- Two years training and/or experience in two of the skills under General Duties above
- Must have a valid driver's license, CDL preferred, or the ability to acquire one in the event job responsibilities require so in the future
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding and aerial life devices
- Ability to work in close restricted locations
- Willingness to respond to emergency calls
- Cooperative and willing attitude toward helping others
- Willing and Able to work both required shifts throughout the year.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
A person working in this position will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee may also be required to work at elevated heights and climb ladders. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.
