Leading digital media company is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its finance team. Candidates should have a solid education in Accounting/Finance as well as previous work experience in public accounting and/or in the Media & Technology industry.
Candidates MUST be able to be on-site in Maryland (DC area) 2x per week.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the month-end close processes for key accounts related to Sales including revenue, cash, accounts receivable, and deferred revenue.
- Manage the accounting functions pertaining to Royalties, including expenses (income statement), advances and reserves (receivables), and payables (liabilities).
- Supervise team of 2-3 staff members by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
- Prepare monthly consolidated reporting package, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Analyze actual-to-budget and actual-to-prior year variances to understand business drivers and ensure the accuracy of financial statements.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding accounting-related activities, and utilize judgment as to when items need to be escalated.
- Provide support for annual audits as necessary, including drafting footnote disclosures and memos, and reviewing audit schedules prepared by staff.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of process documentation and custom reports, assess current practices and procedures, and make recommendations for improvements.
- Provide support for ad hoc analyses and projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a major or emphasis in Accounting/Finance. CPA license or the equivalent is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience. Previous work experience with a public accounting firm is a plus.
- Minimum 2 years in a manager/supervisor role.
- Sound technical knowledge of basic accounting principles required.
- Experience with revenue recognition / ASC 606, as well as royalties, a plus.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft business suite, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Oracle NetSuite and/or industry experience a plus.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task, think creatively, and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
- Strong work ethic with the ability and flexibility to work extended hours during critical periods such as month and year-end.
- Must be team oriented with a positive attitude.
