The Howard University Moorland-Spingarn Research Center has initiated its Black Press Archives Digitization Project, which involves digitizing over 2,000 newspaper titles from the United States, Africa, and the African Diaspora, including notable publications like the Chicago Defender, New York Amsterdam News, and others. The role focuses on ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and quality of digital archival materials, supervising interns, and collaborating with staff and external vendors.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing quality control for digitized materials, ensuring standards for clarity and readability.
  • Verifying accuracy and completeness of digital files, addressing damages or discrepancies.
  • Developing QA protocols and ensuring compliance with digitization standards.
  • Evaluating digital files for web readiness and online publication suitability.
  • Mentoring interns and maintaining documentation for training and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, or related field.
  • Experience with digital imaging and archival digitization workflows.
  • Proficiency in image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards is preferred.

Expected salary range is $55,000 - $60,000. This is a full-time, entry-level position in the Higher Education industry, focusing on Quality Assurance.
