CLASS SUMMARY Performs journey-level skilled work in plumbing installation, maintenance and repair. EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS Assembles pipe sections, tubing or fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment. Installs pipe sections, fitting, valves, appliances or fixtures such as sinks, urinals, and toilets using hand or power tools. Follows specifications and plumbing codes. Inspects, repairs, or replaces pumps, valves and boiler systems, including swimming pool pumps. Replaces defective equipment, mends broken pipes, and opens clogged drains. Reads blueprints, plans, specifications, and building codes. Monitors air and water pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. Assesses damage and deterioration to determine maintenance or repair needs. Selects work materials based on desired outcomes and price considerations.
