Overview

Analytics Consultant - Homelessness Response. Focus Strategies is a national consulting firm dedicated to helping communities improve efforts to end homelessness through community-based planning, informed by local data and national best practices. The firm has provided consulting to jurisdictions and communities for more than 18 years to support reducing homelessness. We partner with communities through strategic consulting and technical assistance to design and implement housing-focused, equity-informed, and person-centered solutions.

Position open and active through the stated posting; actual compensation based on skills and experience. Base pay range: $85,000.00/yr - $115,000.00/yr.

Position Overview

Analytics Consultants provide high-level analyses for client communities, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods projects with an equity lens and a systems approach. Responsibilities include project management, conducting research and analyses related to homeless systems and programs, and delivering findings on time and on budget. The role involves working with internal and external stakeholders and adjusting priorities as needed while striving for excellence and meaningful impact in reducing homelessness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead data analysis efforts for communities working to reduce homelessness, using an equity lens and a systems approach
  • Represent client interests in meetings, including public speaking in formal and informal settings
  • Develop and manage project plans, and collaborate to achieve strong results for Focus clients
  • Support community planning and design activities to develop systems to end or reduce homelessness, including data collection and analysis, and documentation of existing and proposed system processes
  • Conduct research and analyze data from single systems (e.g., homelessness) and multiple disciplines (health, mental health, housing)
  • Synthesize research findings into practical recommendations
  • Develop and implement initiatives to analyze capacity needs of supportive and affordable housing systems within equity-focused contexts
  • Collaborate with supervisor and leadership to set priorities, organize workflow, and provide timely updates
  • Work with client and partner organizations to collect and interpret information
  • Participate in continuous learning and process/product improvement efforts
  • Potential future state: supervise Analysts and support their growth

Requirements

  • A passion for ending homelessness with a commitment to data-informed public policy and equity for marginalized communities
  • A graduate degree in public policy, psychology, public health, or related field (PhD welcome), with coursework in research design, statistics, or data science
  • At least three years of analytics experience in human services programs, systems, policy development, or related field
  • Experience with program evaluation and outcomes measurement and appropriate methodologies for addressing key questions
  • Ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data about homelessness and related systems
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment with diverse backgrounds
  • Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, statistical software (R, SPSS, Stata), and data visualization (Tableau, Power BI)
  • Occasional travel on the West Coast; very occasional travel to other areas
  • Experience translating program or system information into data collection and reporting tools
  • Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Willingness to support projects and staff to accomplish work
  • Attention to detail and self-direction
  • Must reside in the United States and be eligible to work
  • Background checks may be required for projects with PII data

Preferred Skills

  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to operate a computer for 6-8 hours per day
  • Ability to analyze data, transcribe, and read extensively
  • Ability to maintain a safe and ergonomic home workspace; occasional travel for meetings
  • Ability to communicate detailed information verbally and in writing
