Summary of Position


The Campground Director is a full-time, non-exempt position. It is an on-site leadership role responsible providing the overall management and daily operations of the Samish Island Campground and Retreat Center (SICRC). The Director ensures that all guest experiences, facility operations, staff coordination, and programming reflect the mission of Community of Christ and SICRC, while maintaining high standards of hospitality, safety, financial stewardship, and community engagement. This role requires a balance of strategic leadership, operational excellence, accountability, and a heart for service. The Director is the steward of SICRC and acts as the face of the campground, upholding its mission to provide a sacred space for rest, connection, and spiritual growth.


Compensation


$23 to $28/hour USD, health, dental and life insurance, full housing & partial board for employee and family, 403(b) retirement with employer match


Essential Functions


Operations & Administration



  • Oversees daily campground operations including event scheduling, facility management, and customer service.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all communication related to SICRC.

  • Manages bookings, tours, and orientation for new and returning user groups.

  • Ensures the SICA Events Calendar and SICRC website are current.

  • Ensures timely contract preparation, invoicing and deposits, and user communication per SICA policies.

  • Oversees the maintenance of campground financial accounts and ensures all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely fashion.


Guest Services & Relations



  • Creates a welcoming and spiritually hospitable environment for all guests and user groups.

  • Is available on-site or ensures coverage throughout all events to provide support, resolve issues, and monitor adherence to campground policies.

  • Serves as a liaison between guests and staff to ensure a smooth experience from arrival to departure.

  • Represents SICRC positively at community events and builds relationships with Samish Island neighbors and local partners (e.g., Taylor Shellfish).

  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and supports SICRC paid staff and volunteers.

  • Coordinates responsibilities and maintains open communication across all teams.

  • Provides backup and assistance to staff as needed.

  • Promotes a team environment built on mutual respect, shared mission, and service.


Maintenance & Facilities Oversight



  • Ensures the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all facilities, grounds, and equipment.

  • Works with staff and SICA Board to coordinate regular maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects.

  • Supports development of new buildings and capital improvements in coordination with the SICA Board.


Program Support & Event Coordination



  • Collaborates with program leadership, staff, and volunteers to support camps, retreats, and other programming in alignment with the mission of Community of Christ.

  • Supports fundraising efforts and special events on the grounds and in the wider community.

  • Tracks camper days and usage statistics; provides quarterly reports to the SICA Board.


Leadership



  • Models servant leadership in all interactions with guests, staff, and the community.

  • Promotes the campground s purpose as sacred space through hospitality and stewardship.

  • Works with the SICA Board to honor and engage with the Samish Indian Nation.


Key Qualifications



  • Bachelor s degree preferred, or equivalent experience in campground and/or nonprofit management.

  • Strong alignment with the values and mission of Community of Christ and ability to model them in daily work.

  • Demonstrated experience in staff management

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, administration, and budgeting.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email communication, and comfort with technology.

  • Demonstrated experience with QuickBooks Online or other financial management software

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Valid Washington State Driver s License and Food Handler's Card (or willingness to obtain). Willingness to obtain Community of Christ Registered Children and Youth Worker Certification.

  • Anti-harassment training is required within 30 days of hire, and completed annually

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.


Work Environment and Physical Demands



  • Ability to traverse independently over rough, unpaved terrain; ability to climb stairs.

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather.

Required Trainings


Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
