Attention Revenue! The Audit Division is now hiring a Lead Auditor (RA3) in Spokane, WA. Our Lead Auditors audit the largest and most technically diverse business organizations. You'll evaluate business activities and accounting records to determine if taxpayers are in compliance with applicable tax laws and have correctly reported their tax liability. Additionally, you will rely heavily on your extensive knowledge of electronic accounting software to test, analyze and evaluate the taxpayer's accounting system. Also, you will conduct advanced sample planning with taxpayer's information systems personnel and / or DOR's Computer Audit Specialist to determine appropriate statistical sampling methods.
The Lead Auditors are also responsible for training new auditors, this includes developing, assigning and managing training plans. In addition, the Lead Auditor acts as a mentor and coach to staff in the office while serving as an ongoing resource for future taxpayer education.

Qualifications

Advanced Knowledge of Accounting Principles and Tools:
- Demonstrated expertise in applying accounting principles, including advanced understanding of financial statements, general ledgers, and journal entries within diverse business environments.
- Proficient in advanced Excel functions and formulas to organize, analyze, and summarize data.
- In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Research, Analysis, and Problem Solving: - Proven ability to understand and solve problems by applying advanced critical thinking to evaluate financial data, identify risk exposure, and develop strategic solutions.
- Ability to synthesize complex data into fundamental issues and manageable components, identifying the logical outcomes from the analyses of the data collected.
- Ability to research, interpret, and apply federal and state tax laws to determine correct tax reporting.
Planning and Organization: - Extensive experience leading and managing multiple assignments or projects simultaneously, while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to regularly evaluate progress on assignments and adjust organization, priority, time, method, etc., to meet deadlines.
Communication (Written and verbal): - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex tax and financial concepts into actionable insights for diverse audiences to generate understanding and reach agreement.
- Ability to navigate challenging conversations and deliver unfavorable outcomes about tax implications to businesses and representatives in a professional manner.
- Skilled in drafting written communication that effectively conveys ideas or information to the intended reader.

Preference may be granted to candidates with any combination of professional experience or education, such as: Two (2) years of experience as a Revenue Auditor 2,
plus four (4) years of professional accounting, tax compliance, or tax examination experience.
OR Eight (8) years of experience in accounting, banking, auditing, tax compliance, or tax administration.
OR Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting,
plus two (2) years of experience as a Revenue Auditor 2.
OR Bachelor's degree in business administration or closely allied field, which includes 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of college-level accounting (may include credits from one (1) Business Law class),
plus two (2) years of experience as a Revenue Auditor 2.
OR Bachelor's or Graduate degree and is CPA Exam eligible,
plus two (2) years of experience as a Revenue Auditor 2.
OR Bachelor's or Graduate degree and is CPA Exam eligible,
plus four (4) years of professional accounting, tax compliance or tax examination experience.

Holidays Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.

Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.
Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Pay status includes hours worked and time on paid leave.
Sick Leave Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.
Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
Vacation (Annual Leave) Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.
Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.
Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC 357-31-165.
Note: Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for
exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave.
Military Leave Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.
Bereavement Leave Most employees whose family member or household member dies, or for loss of pregnancy, are entitled to five (5) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
