FBH offers an internship for students enrolled in bachelor's degree majors such as psychology, health psychology, applied developmental psychology. This is often an undergraduate's first experience in a professional setting, so the internship is focused around three core elements: an introduction to FBH and community mental health as a setting for the practice of psychology and counseling; activities that help students learn the application of their coursework in a practice setting; and exploration of the student's professional goals and aspirations. An intern is assigned to an FBH program that matches their interest (e.g., child counseling, adult counseling, crisis work, etc) but all interns also get exposure to the breadth and depth of community behavioral health through shadowing in other programs. Internships typically run 90 to 120 hours per academic quarter, with some interns enrolling for two quarters. The FBH Intern Instructor (a licensed independent clinical social worker with training and experience in instruction) oversees the program and offers collaborative seminars weekly for all interns to enhance professional development. Many, but not all, Bachelor's interns are enrolled in EWU's Behavioral Health Support Specialist certificate program.
