Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Active Directory Administrator to support modernization and automation efforts within their enterprise identity and access management environment. This role will work closely with the client's Senior AD Administrator to enhance system efficiency, security, and documentation across the agency's Active Directory infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze existing Active Directory systems and programs to gather knowledge for troubleshooting, development, and future planning.
  • Identify optimization opportunities to improve performance and scalability.
  • Review, update, and maintain existing technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Ensure all AD-related configurations and automation workflows are properly documented and version‑controlled.
  • Assist with completing the implementation of ADManager automation workflows.
  • Help transition to a personnel position number–based permissions and group membership model.
  • Support configuration, testing, and rollout of automated provisioning processes.
  • Collaborate with application owners and IT security to remediate applications integrated with AD.
  • Assist with service account creation, maintenance, and compliance under direction of the Senior AD Administrator.
  • Help ensure all service accounts follow agency security and lifecycle management standards.
  • Use tools such as Varonis and ADManager to identify stale, empty, or redundant objects.
  • Provide recommendations for cleanup and optimization of directory structure, OU design, and group management.
  • Partner with security and infrastructure teams to align AD with organizational best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience administering and managing Microsoft Active Directory in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong understanding of Group Policy Objects (GPOs), OU structure, and RBAC principles.
  • Experience with ADManager Plus, Varonis, or similar identity management tools.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and administration.
  • Familiarity with service account management, identity lifecycle automation, and access control frameworks.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment supporting a government or highly regulated organization.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 / Azure AD integration and hybrid identity management.
  • Knowledge of IAM best practices and security compliance frameworks (CJIS, NIST, etc.).
  • Public sector experience—especially within law enforcement, criminal justice, or emergency services IT environments—is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with Varonis Data Security Platform for AD analytics and permissions review.
