The Management Trainee position's primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, βto create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.β Management Trainees perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager to develop sales, recruiting and leadership skills in order to become a Store Manager. The Management Trainee will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence.
Responsibilities
- Sales Generation and Guest Service: Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude; provide legendary service; answer questions about store and merchandise; recommend and locate merchandise based on Guest needs; anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items; demonstrate product knowledge and share it with the team; stay informed about current sales and promotions, policies, and security practices; aim to achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales and total net sales goals; use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily; build and maintain Guest relationships and model leadership in customer service; perform leadership actions consistently, even when the Manager is not present.
- Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development: Develop, lead, motivate and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle's standards; motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks; coach and counsel Teammates per Buckle policies; actively recruit and participate in interviewing; support the Store Manager by setting up interviews.
- Visual Merchandise Management: Implement, evaluate and create visual displays per Buckle guidelines; manage product categories (e.g., denim, shoes, promotions, supplies); maintain store standards and ensure displays are current.
- Operations: Maintain a flexible schedule; complete an extensive Management Trainee Program with weekly topics, assignments and reviews; establish relationships with Area, District and Corporate offices; perform opening/closing procedures; implement policy changes; balance registers and deposits; adhere to Loss Prevention policies; handle returns and other operational duties in the Store Manager's absence; communicate feedback to management; monitor inventory and maintain a clean, organized, shoppable store; report repair needs and address emergencies as needed; communicate policy violations and concerns appropriately; understand and apply Buckle's Code of Ethics and policies.
- Supervisory and Leadership: Assist Store Manager in leading the team; help onboard new hires; prepare to be a Store Manager by supervising teammates with guidance from management; may travel to cover other stores within the district; contribute to a positive team spirit and high level of customer service; undertake special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a relevant field preferred; or 1β3 months of related retail experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Education and/or Experience requirements may vary by location; visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
- Physical ability to perform duties as described, including standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs; visual acuity requirements specified as needed for tasks.

- Schedule: Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday periods as required.
