Job Description

As a Mortar Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will play a pivotal role by operating the Infantry's most efficient weapon - the mortar. Joining a dedicated mortar squad, section, or platoon, you'll tackle exciting challenges, such as parachuting from troop transport aircraft to establish and camouflage mortar locations. You'll also be responsible for identifying and neutralizing enemy mines.

As you develop your skills and accumulate experience, your responsibilities will grow. Advanced team members will manage and train fellow Soldiers, lead mortar squads, provide crucial tactical and technical guidance, and ensure successful construction of mortar positions. These seasoned specialists are essential for executing combat orders, directing operations in both offensive and defensive scenarios, and managing indirect supporting fire adjustments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, load, and fire various types of mortars.
  • Employ crew and weapons across diverse combat situations.
  • Operate, clean, and properly store automatic weapons.
  • Deploy, fire, and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines.

Earn While You Learn
Instead of incurring expenses to gain these invaluable skills, you will earn a paycheck during your training. In the Army National Guard, you will acquire essential job skills while receiving a stable income and qualifying for tuition assistance.

After 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, you will advance to 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This will include hands-on combat simulations and classroom instruction, ensuring proficiency through regular squad maneuvers, target practice, and tactical exercises.

Requirements
