POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Custodian creates and maintains a safe, clean, and sanitary facility for all members to enjoy. The Custodian follows all instructions on equipment use, chemicals, and scheduling to facilitate enjoyment at the YMCA for all members and staff alike.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures Y facility and equipment is attractive, clean, and sanitary for member and staff use by wet and dust mopping, dusting, window washing, vacuuming, floor cleaning, trash removal, bathroom/fixture cleaning, seasonal activities related to snow removal, and general cleaning.
2. Completes all duties scheduled, replaces supplies when necessary, and maintains upkeep of custodial area and equipment.
3. Records, and reports all needed repairs as directed
4. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
5. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
6. Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, or ladders to prepare facilities for special events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 18 years of age
• Six months or more of related experience preferred.
• Basic understanding of cleaning methods, equipment, products, and their safe, efficient use.
• Completes YMCA required training upon hire
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

• The employee is regularly required to use physical strength and agility by means of twisting at the waist, shoulder, and legs, lying on the stomach and back, reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, and kneeling
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use motorized and non-motorized equipment
• The employee is regularly required to work in conditions creating dirt and dust
• The employee is regularly required to interpret written and verbal instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
• The employee is regularly required to use cleaning and sanitizing agents, chemical compounds, solvents, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms
• The employee is frequently required to lift to 50 pounds
• The employee must occasionally use lifts and ladders, standing on surfaces up to 30 feet in the air
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

STARTING PAY: $17.13/hr
