Field Supervisor - Nutrition Services

6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

260 days / year

JOB SUMMARY:

This position reports tothe Director of Nutrition. This position is responsible for the supervision and efficient operation of the Nutrition program in schools in compliance with USDA, local, State and Federal policies, procedures, rules, regulations and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist kitchen managers in resolving problems and serves as a resource person.
  • Provide support and training for kitchen staff and bookkeepers.
  • On emergency basis, provides coverage on all shifts for kitchen staff.
  • Monitor and supervise summer food service programs.
  • Monitor and supervise staff to ensure compliance with program regulations and requirements.
  • Monitor staff for work safety and assist in developing efficiencies and best practices.
  • Monitor and supervise food preparation and to ensure compliance with standardized recipes.
  • Assist with individual student special dietary needs communication with staff.
  • Monitor serving lines and cashiers to ensure compliance with program regulations.
  • Inspect sites for compliance with food safety program and ensure proper standards are maintained.
  • Review inventory and production records for proper ordering and documentation.
  • Assist with student taste testing of new recipes.
  • Ensure delivery of supplies to kitchens.
  • Annually completes kitchen staff evaluations with assistance from Asst. Director.
  • In conjunction with Director and Asst. Director, plan and attend kitchen manager meetings and staff meetings.
  • Make independent decisions and take appropriate action while following established procedures and guidelines.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Communicate effectively, positively and professionally with administration, staff and students in oral and written form.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continued professional growth through successful completion of classes and professional activities as related to the position.
  • Maintain continuing education to meet USDA professional standards.
  • Travel between sites daily as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and display ethical behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nutrition Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess a WA. State Food Handler's Permit.
  • Must possess a current ServSafe certification or equivalent.
  • Associate Degree in Nutrition, Dietetic, Business, Marketing or Culinary Arts degree, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience in school nutrition services or a food service field to include two years in a supervisory role or a Registered Dietitian with management experience.
  • Possess good mathematical skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply child nutrition guidelines and requirements
  • Knowledge of the use of various types of kitchen equipment.
  • Able to lead and mentor staff.
  • Relevant knowledge using current technology/applications.
  • Must have ability to establish and maintain strong cooperative relations with students, other employees, management and public.
  • Able to organize activities, set priorities, and follow instructions to meet deadlines.

A person working in this position will exert 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. The employee uses chemicals in the performance of this job. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • Salary Range: $36.47- $50.64 per hour. New hires are typically placed at Step 1; relevant experience may qualify for a higher step within the range.
  • Work Year: Generally, 260 days, including 13 paid holidays (actual days may vary by position).
  • Leave:
    • Sick Leave: 12 days per year, prorated for part-year employees.
    • Annual Leave: Up to 3 days per year based on hours worked; unused days are cashed out each July.
    • Vacation (260-day employees): Accrues up to 25 days (200 hours) annually. Up to 40 hours may be cashed out in July if the balance exceeds 240 hours; balances above 280 hours on July 1 are forfeited.
  • Benefits: Employees working more than 630 hours per year are eligible for SEBB benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability).
  • Retirement: Positions working 70+ hours per month for at least 5 months in a 12-month period are eligible for State Department of Retirement Services benefits

Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
