The Vice President of Operations is a senior executive leader responsible for driving operational excellence, financial performance, and brand execution across Makeready's diverse portfolio of independent and lifestyle hotels. This role provides strategic direction and operational oversight for operating hotels, new openings, and transition properties, ensuring each hotel delivers strong financial results, exceptional guest experiences, and a culture aligned with Makeready's operating philosophy.

The Vice President partners closely with property leadership, ownership groups, and home office leaders to optimize performance, build high-performing teams, and enhance long-term asset value. This leader must bring deep operational expertise, strong financial acumen, and significant experience within independent and lifestyle hotel environments, with the ability to translate business intelligence into clear, actionable strategy.

Requested Tasks

  • Provide executive oversight for a multi-property portfolio including independent and lifestyle hotels across diverse markets.
  • Ensure consistent execution of Makeready operating standards, service culture, and brand positioning across all properties.
  • Lead operational strategy for new hotel openings, transitions, repositionings, and major renovation projects.
  • Partner directly with Managing Directors and property leadership teams to drive accountability, performance, and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, brand standards (where applicable), and regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee development and execution of annual operating budgets and long-range financial plans.
  • Analyze P&L performance, forecasts, labor models, and statistical reports to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Revenue teams to develop pricing, positioning, and market share strategies.
  • Maintain deep understanding of market segmentation, demand trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Serve as primary operational partner to ownership groups and asset managers.
  • Provide clear performance reporting, strategic recommendations, and operational insights.
  • Lead portfolio talent strategy including hiring, leadership development, succession planning, and retention.
  • Mentor and develop Managing Director and senior property leaders.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction, quality assurance results, and brand performance metrics.
  • Partner with Experience, Marketing, and Food & Beverage teams to elevate guest journeys and brand storytelling.
  • Serve as key liaison between hotel operations and home office teams including Finance, People + Culture, Marketing, Revenue, Culinary, Design, and Development.
  • Partner with Development and Design teams on pre-opening planning, capital projects, and renovations.
  • Ensure operational readiness, cultural alignment, and brand integrity for all new and transitioning properties.
Requested Capabilities
  • 10-15 years of progressive hotel operations leadership experience.
  • Significant multi-property leadership experience required (regional portfolio to large-scale oversight).
  • Strong background in independent and lifestyle hotel operations required.
  • Proven track record of delivering strong financial performance, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence.
  • Deep expertise across full-service hotel operations including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Engineering, and commercial disciplines.
  • Strong financial acumen including P&L ownership, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to translate complex business data into clear operational strategy.
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, high-accountability, performance-driven environments.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the portfolio.
