Job Description:
The Director of Supplier Quality is a senior leader responsible for establishing and executing a comprehensive supplier quality strategy across internal manufacturing sites and external suppliers, including CMOs. This role ensures that suppliers supporting cosmetics, consumables, OTC products, and Class I and Class II medical devices consistently meet quality, regulatory, and performance expectations. This role serves as a key partner to Quality Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, R&D, and Procurement, driving supplier risk management, qualification, oversight, and continuous improvement in regulated environments.
This is a hybrid role based in Long Beach, CA. Candidates must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate prior to start. Relocation assistance is not provided.
What you'll do:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a global supplier quality strategy aligned with business growth, regulatory requirements, and product lifecycle needs. Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Supplier Quality organization.
- Refine supplier segmentation, risk classification, and control models appropriate for cosmetics, OTC products, consumables, and Class I and Class II medical devices.
- Review and Refine supplier quality policies, SOPs, and governance frameworks to ensure consistent execution across regions.
- Lead supplier and CMO qualification, onboarding, and ongoing monitoring activities.
- Support technology transfers, scale-up activities, supplier changes, and process validations while ensuring regulatory and quality readiness.
- Lead supplier quality activities for white label and private label projects, including supplier qualification, risk assessments, audits, and ongoing oversight.
- Own supplier audits (remote and on-site), including planning, execution, reporting, and SCAR oversight. Support regulatory inspections and audits involving suppliers and CMOs and White Label Partners.
- Ensure supplier performance metrics are defined, tracked, and used to drive corrective and preventive actions. Drive digitization and standardization of supplier quality processes and metrics.
- Collaborate with right partners on supplier quality issues including nonconformances, deviations, complaints, and escalations.
- Provide supplier quality oversight supporting internal manufacturing and CMOs producing cosmetics, consumables, OTC products, and Class I and Class II medical devices, White Label devices.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Quality Operations to resolve supplier-related manufacturing issues impacting yield, throughput, or compliance.
- Ensure supplier quality activities comply with applicable regulations and standards (e.g., FDA QSR/QMSR, ISO 13485, cosmetic GMPs, OTC GMPs).
- Identify, assess, and mitigate supplier risks impacting quality, compliance, and continuity of supply and provide clear visibility of supplier quality risk and mitigation strategies to executive leadership.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain on development of contingency plans, alternate sourcing strategies, and remediation plans for high-risk suppliers.
- Ensure effective use of QMS and ERP systems for supplier records, audits, SCARS, and material traceability and lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen supplier quality capability, reliability, and compliance.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to cross-functional leaders on supplier-related quality and compliance risks and influence decision-making with clear, data-driven recommendations balancing quality, risk, cost, and speed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What you need to know: Experience/Skills/Education:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Life Sciences, Quality, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive quality and/or supplier quality leadership experience in regulated industries.
- Direct experience supporting cosmetics, consumables, OTC products, and Class I and Class II medical devices.
- Proven experience managing global suppliers, CMOs, and white label partners in regulated manufacturing environments.
- Proven experience in manufacturing and Quality Operations for cosmetic, OTC, Class I, Class II and White Label Device.

An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, travel requirements, revenue-based metrics, any contractual agreements, and business or organizational needs.
