The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for Roving Crew Inspectors located in the Post Falls, ID area

Roving Inspector Primary Responsibilities

This job is part of the agency's statewide invasive species prevention program. These positions conduct watercraft inspections and decontaminations at high use recreation areas in Idaho to prevent the spread of zebra/quagga mussels and other Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) from infested states. The position will use an established protocol to inspect watercraft and conduct decontaminations on high risk conveyances; conducting quality control activities at watercraft inspection stations; setting up and taking down portable traffic signs on daily basis; properly entering detailed watercraft data on an electronic inspection form; conducting "clean, drain, dry" public education and outreach; attending outreach events promoting the clean, drain, dry message.

The position will also provide back-up assistance to ISDA's invasive species survey technicians. On an as needed basis, roving crew members will assist with the collection of early detection plankton tow samples and participate in aquatic noxious weed surveys.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant must be able to fulfill the following duties:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to pay attention to detail when conducting watercraft inspections
  • Work in various types of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to bend and crawl underneath watercraft, when necessary and with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Possibility of working evenings, weekends, or long hours. The typical work is scheduled to occur Thursday through Sunday at remote locations requiring overnight travel during these work periods.
  • State vehicle usage
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be 18 years old or older
Desired Qualifications
  • Aquatic biology, ecology or field inspection experience
  • Knowledge of field sampling protocols and methods
  • Experience with pressure washers
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision in remote areas.
  • Experience with vehicle/equipment management (receipts, maintenance, etc.)
  • Experience working with and towing trailers
  • Experience with paddle and motorboat operation and safety
