Sr. Project Construction Estimator (Utility & Renewables)

Long term contract

Location: Detroit (Hybrid: Tue-Thu On-site / Mon & Fri Remote)

Are you a precision-driven Estimator with a deep background in electrical systems? We are lookingfor a Sr. Project Estimator to lead the development of high-impact project plans for major utility and renewable energy initiatives.

From Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) to definitive estimates, you'll be the analytical engine ensuring our projects are executed with maximum efficiency and financial accuracy.

The Role at a Glance

As a subject matter expert, you will partner with project management teams to build, monitor, and refine integrated project estimates. Your insights will directly influence scope packages, contractor bid selections, and risk mitigation strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Estimating: Develop detailed unit pricing, budgetary estimates, and cost-loaded schedules via WBS.
  • Strategic Review: Challenge contractor bids and change orders for accuracy; validate engineering estimates and material quantities.
  • Analytical Rigor: Perform risk analysis, benchmarking, value engineering, and constructability reviews.
  • Process Leadership: Drive continuous improvement by developing new estimating templates and capturing "lessons learned"from completed projects.
What You Bring to the Team

We are looking for a technical expert who speaks the language of electrical infrastructure-specifically substations, overhead (OH), and underground (UG) cable work.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education/Experience: * High School/GED + 10 years of Electrical Journeyman estimating experience; OR

    • Associate Degree + 8 years of electrical systems estimating; OR
    • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering or related) + 6 years of electrical systems estimating.
  • Tech Savvy: Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Communication: Strong advocacy skills with the ability to present complex financial data to stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred Assets:
  • Experience in Renewables (Solar, Wind) and Large-scale Utility projects.
  • Proficiency in On-Screen Takeoff or similar estimating software.
  • Ability to estimate the full project lifecycle (Engineering, PM, Construction, and Commissioning).
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction estimating experience within utilities, with a strong preference for electric utility projects
  • Proven experience estimating large-dollar projects; exposure to multi-million-dollar estimates is required
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Schedule: Enjoy the flexibility of two remote days, with three collaborative days in our Metro Detroit office.
  • Field Engagement: Occasional travel for site walkdowns; must be comfortable in power plant environments (climbing stairs, confined spaces).
