Purpose

To maintain Airfield Electrical Systems to include, Runway and Taxiway Lighting Systems, Roadways, Parking Lots, Emergency Power Generators, Lighting Control Systems, Communications Systems and Airfield Facilities Electrical Systems.
Major Responsibilities

  • Installs and maintains airfield & facilities lighting systems.
  • Installs and maintains electrical conduits and apparatuses using the required tools for the task.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical wiring & all related components.
  • Installs and modifies existing projects to accept new applications.
  • Installs and maintains radios.
  • Ensures all new electrical installations are in accordance with current Electrical Codes.
  • Reports any unsafe conditions or accidents to the Field Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Ensures a sufficient number of spare lighting fixtures are available for replacement on the Airfield.
  • Performs other tasks as necessary to assist other crafts.
  • Provides aid and guidance to the public.
  • Observes all safety rules and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Notifies Airfield Superintendent of any job related problems including accidents and/or injuries.
  • Operates those items of heavy equipment necessary in performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the jobs, i.e., backhoe, high lift truck and front loaders.
  • Operates all snow removal equipment and perform snow & ice control duties as required.
  • Performs janitorial duties, pick and shovel work as required.
Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two year College or Technical School, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of four years experience. Must be certified by the State of Washington as a journey-level Electrician as attested by the Department of Labor & Industries.
  • Must possess a valid industrial first aid and CPR certification card.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher, free of serious or frequent traffic violations. Individual must have at time of hire or be able to obtain within the probationary period of employment. Failure to obtain may result in termination.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license, free of serious or frequent traffic violations.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret electrical diagrams reports and technical procedures.
  • Must have the ability to present information to all levels of the general public, i.e., managers, contractors and employees.
  • Must have mathematical abilities to work the basic principles of the electrical field.
  • Must have ability to define problems, collect data and reach practical solutions.
  • Be familiar with computers.
  • Must have poise and personal bearing to deal with all people. Must be able to establish a professional and courteous relationship with peers, supervisor, and public.
  • Must be able to schedule and prioritize tasks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects up to 50 pounds on a regular basis with the ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Job functions require frequent standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; occasional sitting and walking.
  • Must be able to walk over rough terrain, climb ladders, balance, and crawl through small spaces.
  • Extensive wrist and hand movements required for keyboarding, use of equipment, and driving. Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or control objects, tools, and controls. Must have significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Ability to perform close work to read and use computer required. Must be able to see details of objects and determine distances between objects. Must be able to see differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Ability to move about facilities & all areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate via email, two-way radio and phone.
  • Ability to exchange information through listening and talking with coworkers and other individuals required.

SECURITY/SAFETY:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport security badge as a condition of employment.

  • CEO/Executive Director, Directors, Airport employees, Tenants, and the Public.
WORKING CONDITIONS, TRAVEL, ENVIRONMENT AND POTENTIAL HAZARDS
  • Travel in local area. Attend education up-date classes. Work environment has hazards of working around high voltage electricity; occasionally with extreme weather conditions; some exposure to chemicals, herbicides and petroleum products. Work performed around moving mechanical parts. Also exposure to moderate to high noise levels. Hearing protection provided and required for some tasks.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION REQUIRED
  • Backhoe, Front-end Loader, High Lift Trucks, all assigned Snow Removal Equipment, and hand power tools. Also, required to operate specialized equipment for electrical work.

Spokane Airport provides a generous benefit package. Currently, we cover the employee at 100% of the premium cost and any dependents at 80%. We offer four plan choices for medical coverage (includes vision) through Kaiser Permanente. The Airport contributes to a Health Savings Account (HSA) for high deductible plans and a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for the other plans. Dental coverage is through MetLife. Additionally, the Airport provides life insurance at two times the annual salary. Optional life insurance is also available. Retirement is through the Washington State Department of Retirement System - PERS Plan. The Airport provides an employee assistance program through BHO, and an employee wellness program. Parking is provided.

The Airport recognizes 11 holidays. Vacation is earned at eight (8) hours a month for the first five (5) years and increases every five (5) years. Sick leave accrues at eight (8) hours a month. The Airport also provides military and jury leave.
