Job Summary

Under the guidance of the Dietary Manager or Supervisor, the Apprentice Cook prepares and cooks meals tailored to the dietary needs of patients, residents, staff, and visitors within a healthcare and assisted living setting. Collaboration with dietitians and healthcare professionals ensures meals are nutritious, hygienic, and appealing.

Essential Job Functions

  • Review planned menus to determine types and quantities of meats, vegetables, and soups to prepare.
  • Calculate food quantities needed for weekly menus and communicate orders to management.
  • Ensure timely meal preparation and readiness.
  • Coordinate with management regarding leftover food usage.
  • Consult with Registered Dietitians on specialized diets as needed.
  • Oversee Cafeteria Aide staff during food washing, trimming, and preparation tasks.

Education, Experience, and Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Food & Beverage Card.
  • Previous food service training or experience preferred.
  • Compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Dependability in attendance and timely completion of duties.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and respectfully with patients, guests, and team members.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary depends on qualifications and experience, with annual incremental increases.
