The current salary range for this position is posted (does not include cost-of-living adjustments). The successful candidate typically starts at a Step 1 rate. The entirety of the progression is as follows:

This position requires journey level certification or equivalent education such as an AA degree, or greater, in mechanical or electrical disciplines along with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the trade.
The Maintenance 4 position will perform advanced skilled installation, maintenance, repair and construction of assigned equipment and buildings to assure their proper and safe functioning.
The successful candidate in this position will perform skilled craft work in HVAC maintenance & repair, rough and finished carpentry, plumbing, electronics (low and high voltage), locksmith, pneumatic and electrical control devices and telecommunications cables and equipment.
This position requires advanced skills that are recognized either in specialization in one or more designated craft(s), usually requiring licensure or specialized certification, or in advanced abilities in multiple skilled areas, which may be recognized by multiple licenses or certificates of qualification. Positions of the class are distinguished from Maintenance 3 positions in that these positions require their incumbent to function at a full, standard journey level of competence and skill in such areas as carpentry, electricity or plumbing, but not to be recognized experts in those crafts nor to be skilled in highly specialized fields such as electronics, telecommunications, HVAC controls or Plumbing, and associated systems.

These skills and abilities typically are acquired through a combination of experience and training, which would include at least five years of experience in building construction, building maintenance and repair, electrical, plumbing, heating, chilling and electronic equipment installation and maintenance with licensure or advanced certification in at least one of the recognized skilled crafts.

Work Conditions:
Work is performed in a variety of buildings and locations where incumbents are exposed to the use of tools, equipment and environments that may cause injury. These exposures are mitigated by proper use of such devices as eye and hearing protection and protective shoes. County vehicles are used on a regular basis requiring applicants to have excellent driving records. Incumbents may be required to travel to multiple buildings during each work shift. They may be required to work in such facilities as juvenile detention facilities where offenders are incarcerated and where special attention must be given to maintaining building security
