Position Details

Position Title - Program Coordinator, Master Gardener Coordinator

Division/College - College of Agricultural & Life Sciences

Department - Northern District

Location - Coeur d'Alene

Posting Context Statement - The Master Gardener Coordinator supports the University of Idaho Extension by recruiting and training volunteers, organizing horticulture classes and public workshops, coordinating the Plant Clinic, and promoting the Master Gardener Program through community outreach. This position maintains program records, supports presenters and events, oversees program revenues, and fosters positive relationships with staff, volunteers, agencies, and the public.

Position Overview - This position is responsible for providing day-to-day operations support to team members throughout the planning, implementation and delivery of programs, and may serve as first point of contact for the unit. Duties may include: serving as primary contact with program participants, customer service and office support functions; facilitating communication between program participants and managerial staff; coordinating arrangements for the program such as meetings, conferences and banquets; collecting, compiling and summarizing program data and managing records; maintaining program calendars and schedules; may utilize University programs to create, review and approval financial documents, and to provide routine financial reports to the program administrator; other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Required Experience - Three years performing administrative, office and/or program support functions.

Required Education - High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Other - Ability to work nonstandard business hours during the fair and special events. Current Certified Master Gardener or ability to obtain Master Gardener certification within 1 year (12 months) of employment. Valid driver's license and ability to meet requirements for driving university vehicles.

Additional Preferred - Associate's degree, Applied Associate's degree, or certification from a two-year college or professional/technical program in horticulture, plant science, agriculture, or a closely related field and experience in horticulture, gardening, landscape management, plant-based education, or a related field; OR two years of demonstrated experience in horticulture, gardening, landscape management, plant-based education, or a related field. Two years of experience managing volunteers or employees and coordinating programs and activities. Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database software.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions - Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move up to 25 pounds.
