The Kentucky Department of Education is a service agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and part of theEducation and Workforce Development Cabinet. The department provides resources and guidance to Kentucky'spublic schools and districts as they implement the state's P-12 education requirements. The department alsoserves as the state liaison for federal education requirements and funding opportunities.

The department is led by an appointed commissioner of education, who is hired by and answers to the 11-memberKentucky Board of Education. Offices are administered by associate commissioners, and divisions within thoseoffices are administered by division directors.

The department employs approximately 425 Frankfort-based workers; 175 employees in support of the KentuckySchool for the Blind (Jefferson County) and Kentucky School for the Deaf (Boyle County); and about 518employees at the 50 Area Technology Centers across the state.

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Career and Technical Education, Division of StudentTransition and Career Readiness, Career Programs and Pathways Branch has an opening for an Education ProgramConsultant. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Serve as the content expert for Kentucky's Business and Marketing programs. Under general direction,provides consultative services and technical assistance to local school system personnel, classroom teachersand other state and private agencies in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum contentin the area of business and marketing programs; and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provide leadership, consultative services and technical assistance to local school district personnel andother state and private educational agencies in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum andassessment content for KY's Business and Marketing Education Programs at middle & high school levels. Serve onstate boards related to the areas of Business and Marketing Education.
  • Collaborate with business and industry, post-secondary institutions, KDE, and professional organizationson issues relating to curriculum needs for Business and Marketing Education. Collaborate with all partners onissues related to improving instruction and the school improvement process.
  • Assist in providing leadership to the Future Business Leaders of America/Distributive Education Clubs ofAmerica student organizations by ensuring alignment of competitive events to curriculum and working withteachers in the implementation of Career Technical Student Organizations as a component of Business andMarketing Education Programs.
  • Serve on integrated teams and/or work groups as assigned to implement initiatives and priority work ofthe Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE).
  • Demonstrate initiative to meet needs of OCTE.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in education or a related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Three years of professional experience in education, career and technical education, or a related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Department of Education or Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required educational requirement. Additional professional experience in the field of education will substitute for the required educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office or school setting. Travel may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
