HIRING!!!!!! $22/HR - Forklift Operator and Material Handler
This role focuses on yard-based forklift operation and material handling, supporting shipping, receiving, and customer order fulfillment. You load and unload trucks, receive shipments, assist will-call customers, package orders on pallets, and cut lumber using a chainsaw. Approximately 80% of your time is spent off the forklift, actively moving around the yard. You work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions and use gas and propane forklifts along with a tablet for order picking and data entry.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using gas and propane forklifts and manual handling when needed.
- Receive incoming shipments, verify quantities, and ensure materials are accurately documented.
- Assist will-call customers by locating, preparing, and loading their orders in a professional and timely manner.
- Package orders on pallets, securing materials properly for safe transport and delivery.
- Cut lumber using a chainsaw in accordance with safety procedures and order specifications.
- Use an online tablet to pick orders, perform data entry, and update inventory and shipping information accurately.
- Perform shipping and receiving activities, including counting units, recording totals, and documenting transactions.
- Move and stage materials throughout the yard to support production, general labor, and material handling needs.
- Apply a strong safety mindset in all tasks, following yard, equipment, and personal safety protocols.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and remain productive and focused throughout the shift.
- Use basic math skills to add, subtract, and multiply when counting units, verifying orders, and completing documentation.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly to ensure efficient yard operations and customer service.
Essential Skills
- Experience in material handling, production, or general labor in a yard or warehouse environment.
- Ability to perform loading, unloading, shipping, and receiving tasks safely and accurately.
- Comfort working outdoors all day in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Ability to push and pull up to 100 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds, with most product moved using forklifts.
- Basic math skills, including adding, subtracting, and multiplying, to support counting and documentation tasks.
- Ability to accurately count units, record totals, and document shipping and receiving activities.
- Comfort using a tablet or similar device for order picking, data entry, and technology-based workflows.
- Strong safety mindset and willingness to follow established safety procedures for equipment and yard operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Forklift experience is a plus but not required; prior exposure to gas or propane forklifts is beneficial.
- Experience working in large home improvement or building materials environments, such as big-box home centers, is advantageous.
- Ability to learn and operate multiple types of forklifts as skills progress.
- Willingness to develop new skills and take on additional responsibilities to advance through tiered skill levels.

Work Environment
This is a yard-based role performed outdoors year-round in all elements, including hot, cold, rainy, and snowy conditions. You primarily work on and around multiple gas and propane forklifts and handle building materials and lumber. The position involves frequent movement, with about 80% of the time spent off the lift, walking, handling materials, and assisting customers. You use an online tablet regularly for order picking and data entry, and most heavy product is moved using forklifts, reducing the need for manual handling. The environment is active, physically demanding, and safety-focused, with operations centered on efficient material flow and accurate shipping and receiving.
Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spokane Valley, WA.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
